Unique handcrafted Intarsia and scrolled wood art wall decor and accents for human living spaces in homes, cabins, restaurants, and vacation rentals.
Before becoming a full-time Sarasota resident more than 60 years ago, Hank Schrock grew up in the small Amish farm community of Arthur Illinois. Growing up Amish and at a very young age, Hank contributed to his family by working on the farm, and by learning the carpentry trade. It was hard work, but that’s what most Amish boys were required to do at the time. Being assigned the family carpentry tasks is what inspired Hank’s love for the natural beauty of wood and the process for woodworking. In his late teens, Hank became tired of the harsh Illinois winters and left home and the Amish lifestyle for a warmer climate to pursue a career in the construction industry. He was lead to Sarasota, a true tropical paradise in the Gulf Coast of Florida. After arriving, it didn’t take long for him to decide to make Sarasota his permanent home. Soon after moving, Hank met and married the love of his life Esta Troyer. They met at a church-sponsored wiener roast at the park in Pinecraft -- a small Amish community in Sarasota. Hank successfully worked in Sarasota’s construction industry and for 30 years, served as president of the Robert Schrock Corporation, a certified custom home building firm with separate drywall and flooring divisions serving the Florida Suncoast area. After retiring, Hank continued pursuing his passion for woodworking. His days start early, where he can be found in his wood shop with a cup of coffee or tea nearby while classical music plays in the background working on one of his latest artistic creations. Photo taken Circa 1956-57 Hank’s wife Esta is an accomplished painter – she has always enjoyed craft and tole painting, so it became a natural fit that the two would combine their talents to create beautiful pieces of wood art. One of their specialties is a process called Intarsia -- a technique that uses selected wood cut into multiple shapes and sizes, fitted together to create a pictorial scene with an impression of three-dimensional depth. Every wood piece is individually cut with a scroll saw, precision shaped, sanded and glued together and completed with a natural finish, stain or paint. For Hank and Esta, it is rewarding to watch their projects come together piece by piece as they become unique works of art. The real thrill comes when someone selects one of their art pieces to display in their living space. Their goal is that each owner will want to pass their creations on to their family members to cherish for generations to come.
